Plum Crisp

This was standard fare in my household growing up. Usually inundated with guests for Sunday lunch, this was a dessert that was easy to make and was always a crowd pleaser. Our family recipe is a modified version of the apple crisp recipe in the  “More-with-less” cookbook.

What you need:

  • [For the Filling]
  • 1 kg sliced italian plums (yes it’s really good with apples too)
  • 1 Tbsp flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 Tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 Tbsp water
  • [For the topping]
  • 1 cup quick or rolled oats
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 Tsp cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • 1/2 butter (or margarine)
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar

How it’s done:

  • Mix the filling ingredients together and place in a greased casserole.
  • Mix together the dry ingredients and cut in the butter.
  • Spread the topping over the filling and bake at 190C (375F) for 35 minutes or so.
